running higher punch control reduces the strain on the batteries, limiting the rate at which the throttle position can change, which in turn kind of limits the current it will draw if you go wide open from standstill (most brushless systems loose control when you do this anyway).

I've never notice any difference with any aspect of driving my car or with temperatures or anything when I change the start power...I don't totally understand it.

Theres no harm in trying though, change them and see if you notice any difference, thats probably the best way to find out :)
