Is the maxamps 8400 a 2S2P pack? If thats the case then you have 2 cells in parallel against a single 5000mah cell. Paralleling the cells really helps for the spikes and helps to maintain voltage. Thats probably why the maxamps pack is running cooler. I have some of the first 10C 8000mah truerc packs and they will run a 7XL up to about 40mph in my emaxx and stay ice cold doing it.
