i keep breaking the transmission pins

like the title said i keep snapping the pins for the gears in the tranny... its the one for the gear b4 the center diff. (dont have one but its the gear it replaces) ive already gone thru 3 of them and dont have any spares left.. what would be a good alternative?

i was thinking of buying a drill bit the same size and use the shank off that.
