Are you sure you are thinking correctly? My LST shocks sit right up against the arm. The spacer goes in the gap between the outer screw hole and the inner, to keep us monkeys from collapsing the outer part of the arm.

As far as the difference, IDK - I've always wondered what the diff is between XL and the X in regards to the arms. Might be something out at the carrier too....
