my new brushless truggy build

Hi folks,

I would like to introduce my latest brushless conversion. I have chosen the "Robitronic Mantis" to be convertet; I have bought this one used on ebay, in pretty good condition. The "mantis" is a very popular car here in Germany/Austria, very rugged, and has only a few bugs, which I have fixed.

The setup is going to be again: motor on one side, batteries on the other, with a MR 2680-1600 on 5s lipos. The ESC I have put on the steering servo, but changed that later.

I am a big fan of my OFNA (hobao) Torsen diff, so I am using this for this build, too. Just ordered a new main gear mith 58t, cleand the internal gears and put some lube and "hypoid-oil" of my mercedes-benz diffs into it. So far no wear.

the diff-cases needed some work, to avoid dirt getting too much into the bearings:


The front upper hingepins get a loose fit in the aluminum after a while, so I improved it with some carbon-fiber and, as the original hingepins are to short, took some 4mm spring-steel, no slackness at all like this:




the chassis got sealed, to keep dirt outside.




the mudguard is made of Kydex, great stuff. On this pics the esc is on top of the steering servo. Handling was not good like that, so I have moved it to the rear.

ESC at the rear:

drives much better like this, just excellent.
I changed the shock-springs and the rear shocks, as the originals are too progressive in my opinion, the new rear shocks are longer too, for more shock-travel.

I have finally got myself a new tx/rx, it's the cheap 2,4ghz of hobbyking, wich works simply flawlessly. I have smoked the bec of the ESC, so I got myself a cheap but excellent "hextronic" ubec, wich works better then the ones made by hobbywing (is also a bit bigger).

I hope wheather stays dry today, I'll be going for a ride
