Higher voltage lower amps thoughts - 11.15.2006, 11:51 PM

Hi,

I have been pretty much dormant for the last few months as I was kind of discouraged with my experiments. I was fighting heat issues with the esc. My tinkering revealed that I was pulling in excess of 100A during hard accelaration using a 4S on a 7XL motor in a buggy. This tended to overheat the esc. I had to installed copper heatsinks on the Quark 125 & 60mm fan to cool it. Still the result was inconclusive as the rainy season set in. I recalled also that I had better luck when I was running 5S with a 9920.

To cut the story short, I read in a flying forum that some heli people put a plane esc with 10S lipo into a buggy conversion & it was a good combination as the amp draw was low & everything ran cool. They left out some details on the brake though.

Is this the way to go ? 10S 2000mah is pretty much equivalent to 5S 4000mah in terms of power density right ? To lose less to heat in fact is a good advantage of the HV system over typical systems currently in the market. The only problem is that the motor has to be of a much lower KV rating though. Any thoughts ?

Regards,
Joe Ling
