7XL or 8L /w MM on an Emaxx?

Is it because its more power in the Xl motors? I have the 8L now with 4s, heat sink on motor and esc. the gearing i use is 51/18 and 51/16 and the motor is getting hot, vould it be cooler with 7XL:032: Sorry the of topic Sorry the bad english i'm from Norway
