The S just denotes that the calls are wired in series, not the battery chemstry.

I run mine on 12 nicads in series, I've heard that they can take up to 14 nicad/nimh in series, but only 4 or 5 Lipos in series due to there higher voltage per cell.

Assumeing you mean Nicad/nimh you should be OK with 14 cells in series as long as you disable the MM's BEC and use a RX pack or Ubec.

I guess you come from the boat world like me, where its not that unusual to run subC's in paralel packs to supply big watercooled controllers and motors at 200+Amps sustained. Decent subC's will be able able to push the MM's 100Amp limit without paraleling cells, so if you say "14 cells" round here peeps will assume its in a 14s1p format, and if you describe the format they assume it is a Lipo.
