I had a similar problem with my s-maxx when I got it in that it would run at about 270F even at 21 degrees(C) temps. I used dremel to cut out air vents and made the engine hole bigger and problem doesn't really come up any more.
It may also be that you also need to go through the adj process of HSN and LSN and idle setting. Use the manual otherwise do a search on the traxxas forum to get tips on tuning.
Don't beat yourself up its not worth it, just have another try with tuning because when the trx 2.5 is tuned it rocks. It does sound like that it is running a bit lean.

Can you describe what you have done thus far and specific problems that are happening (e.g. richen, cogs down, lean but too hot, run in procedure????) that way I can maybe of more help. ;)
Just from what you have said so far it sounds like the LSN needs to be adjusted because if that is too rich then that cause the engine to stop or bog down. If you have adj the HSN then that can sort of clear up the prob, but then as you have found it is too lean.
If it helps, it took me about 10-12 tanks before I figured out the tuning and made necessary adjustments

First nitro, I assume? There is alearning curve when you first =try to tune these motors. Have you got this figured out yet, or are you still having some trouble?

The TRX 2.5 is an excellent motor. You may have similar troubles with a new motor, although O.S. is the easiest to tune motor I have used. I would try going to the factory needle settings on the motor and work from there. It takles a little practice to get the hang of nitro tuning.
