IMO, it's the battery technology that scares people. A BL system can be released by anyone and be an easy-to-use bundle. But battery charging and maintenance can be confusing for some. I think there are many more mechanically-inclined people out there than electronically-inclined - after all, you can't see electricity working.

And then, there is the safety aspect of lipos. Sure, they have come a long way and rarely explode/flame, but these same people don't want to take a chance. They could get A123s, but those are heavier and use a different charge profile, which is further confusing for some.
