Most recent post on the subject from Patrick (owner of Castle) in the Monster Max thread in the CC forum on RCG.

Post date 9/6/07

Ah well,

Again it's my fault. We were going to release a version of the Mamba Max with stacked power boards and a switching regulator --

But it was just going to be WAY too expensive. And the performance wasn't all that great either.

So, I scrapped that plan. Now, we are close to being ready to beta the new design. It's a lot less expensive, and should perform better than the stacked board Mamba Max.

I'm sorry that the development has taken soooo long... but I wanted to be sure that we released a really COOL product that works really well (and was affordable), and I wasn't satisfied with what we had.

To be honest with you all, I'd rather take some extra time to be sure we release a product that meets the expectations our customers have come to expect of Castle Creations.

Patrick

Enough of an update?

Thanks for the update Joe. I just wish we could have been updated a little sooner. A little communication goes a long way and I think people are generally pretty accepting of the type of explaination you just listed. Hopefully people aren't too bent at the silence for so long. Either way, thanks for the update. I won't even ask about projected release date

Ok can I be the one to point out that this was 4 weeks ago - what is the new news?

Beta done - testing in progress - targeted specs?

OK, at least things are sounding like progress is being made. At this point, curiosity is really getting the better of me.

Where's the preorder line? I'll pay for one now, just so that I can get it when they are released.

The occasional tid-bit of info is always welcome. it would be nice to know what specs you are aiming at though yeah, even if they arent the final specs, it would let people know if it might meet there needs; you know how power-hungry some of the guys are with their cells counts into 3 figures.... ;)

Beta testing might be taking some other few months( 2 years). I hope I'm atleast 90% wrong.
That's not soooo good of an update, sorry to say this, though.

You gotta think positive! I know I'm positive it won't be ready until 2010.

It's basically like they started all over, "Now, we are close to being ready to beta the new design." Chances are it wont come out until another few years. What a disappointment.

come on, maybe 2009. thats why I would like a real update with specs. By now I really think I have to actually be able to see a working unit to really get my hopes up on anything from castle.

The way it looks now, Tekin, Novak and probably even Traxxas will have something out before them.
