on a rough track i would avoid 40 series.
the 40 series have less side-flex than normal sized wheels; the truck becomes unpredictable

For bashing i wouldn't use 40 series either. the sidewall is skinny, so on jumps etc. the truck takes a beating. I personally like a wide standing truck, so almost all my wheels have offset.

perhaps the proline baldlands are the tires that suit your needs. they come with molded foams, which are much better in terms of quality than normal foams. normal foams tend to get (too) soft after a while. molded foams are known to outlast a tire. a 23mm version of rim would be a wise investment too. (but you need additional 23 mm wheel adapters.)
