1515 2.5D (1700kv) is a good motor for 5s, can be geared up for high speeds and is petty good on 6s. I like 5s on the 2.5D for the track, low temps, low power draw, and you can play with gearing a fair bit. Haven't had any problems with my quark since using this motor (no mods on the quark).
I don't think you'll need a $375 MGM. The $275 16018 should be enough for the track and normal bashing and can still do 6s.
I don't know if you'd need mech brakes, unless you want them. I use motor brakes in mine. So one less servo to buy. I thought most of Mike's motor mounts don't work with mech brakes any way, but I haven't looked into that.

The XT8 mount is the first one that allows you to use mechanical brakes. I think the others will eventually be changed over as well.

well i have some 645mg servos that i could use for brakes and that will allow me to save some money!

also, i too was wondering why i needed that 375 dollar esc but i figured it was needed with such a big truck...

i have a question.

if i get the 1y and use 4s on it how will that compare to the 2.5d on 5s?

i will never go 6s but possibly 5s.

what would you think the runtimes would be with the 30c 4500 batteries?

No limits.... This is the sexiest truck ever IMO. I would just have Mike build me one and ship it one part at a time untill I had it all bought.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

Last week when I raced my truggy (5 or 6 5 minute races in the middle of warm day) my unmoded quark was working well with just the rcm heatsink and no fans, running the 1515 2.5D (1700kv) on 5s, so I would have thought that the 16018 would work well too since people say the MGM's run cooler, but tallyram's truggy that was linked to uses 22418 ($375 one), so maybe there's something I don't know.

I don't have both to compare, but on those voltages the 2.5d should only be ~1000rpm slower, so top speed with the same gearing should very close, but with the higher voltage the 2.5D should have a bit more torque and lower amp draw. Meaning a little bit less volt drop in theory, which could make up the rpm difference and there should be a bit more room to gear up. Basically I think they should be pretty close, but the 2.5 should run a little bit cooler, with a bit more torque and runtime.

When possible using higher voltage is better, as it reduces current draw and generally makes stuff run cooler and more efficiently, taking stress off components.

I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything, but why would a person go with the XT8? I agree it's a nice looking truck and I've heard the kit goes together extremely well, but how about it's racing and handling characteristics? I keep hearing the Losi 8ight-T is the best handling truggy out there. Anyone care to chime in on that? Thanks.
