Question CRT.5 Ext Chassis Questions - 11.10.2007, 04:29 AM

I am wanting to buy a CRT.5 and convert it to brushless. I was looking at the kit http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...od=rcmcrt.5kit
I have a radio and a normal size servo (94358z) It says you can use normal servos on the site.
1) I also have a 6900kv Mamba Max esc combo. Will this be fine for the crt.5?
2) What pinion and spur gear do I use? (pitch and brand?)
3) Is there any type of modifications I have to do to the chassis?
4) Will 6 cell nimh fit the chassis?
5) Do I have to buy a 1/10 truck body?
6) What wheels fit?

I am going to be running Traxxas Rustler wheels with Proline Gladiator Truck Tyres. Can anyone recommend a pinion and spur?

1. the 6900kv is too hot for the gearing options of this truggy. I would recommend the Mega Car 10 Mike carries with you MM
2. You will need a 1/8" bore Mod1 pinion. Mike carries these pinions in several sizes
3. you should not have to make any chassis mods
4. 6 cells should fit just fine
5. Yes, the stock crt.5 body is too short
6. Mike recommends Traxxas rear rims(wide offset) and 1/10 truck tires

I really would like to stick with Mamba motor as I haven't had any dramas at all with it and it is completly sealed off. Is 5700kv still overkill? I will be running only a 4000hv 2S Lipo

The 4600KV motor would be the best out of the four CC motors, but even that will be hot. You can go for a Mamba Max ESC with a Feigao motor with around 3500 - 4000KV. But that will also be a pretty hot set up, but you will at least get decent speed on only 2s. The ideal set up would to have around a 3000KV motor on the Mamba Max running on 3s lipo or maybe even a 4s lipo.

You can use the spur that comes with the kit. Just make sure you run a RCM hardened pinion gear.

Yes, the mod 1 with a reducer will work fine. I ran a 6900kv motor in my ls10 (similar size/weight to the .5) on 2s lipo and it was ok. You will need a good heatsink(s) on the motor and gear as low as possible. It will get hot, just depends on how long you run it. A feigao L can motor would be better, a 7l would work on 2s. At 60 bucks the feigao is a good deal. Ebay the 6900 and you will get at least $50 for it. I have sold at least 10 mamba motors on the bay and they always sell.

My local track is very large. I notice in the truggy section there is a few people running the 5700. Thinking about going the 4600 mamba and running 12t pinion, standard 46t spur with 4000hv 2s lipo.
I was running a BJ4 with 72t spur, 15t pinion with the 6900kv and a 3800nimh and it quick butt on the track
