Lutach, I am totally and completely with you on the higher voltage. I'd run higher but my ESC's won't take it, and my pocketbook won't take a real HV ESC at the moment!

The reason I suggested watts is because it's a measure of work. RPM just measures speed, and torque is independent of speed. Just keeping the RPMs below 40K doesn't really equalize the playing field. (I realize you already know this but for other folks....) For instance, say someone wants to run a 10S 2300mAh setup. A 14XL will keep the RPMs under 40K, but (assuming A123 cells) that's potentially a 2200w setup. Likewise a person could get a 2S 3800 20C LiPo pack with a 7S motor, stay in the 40K range, but only make 562w.

I too should have been more clear in my response, haha!

What I should have said is that you can have any pack you want, as long as its output doesn't exceed 1500w. That way everyone has the same potential power to work with, and they can choose to go with any setup they want in terms of cell chemistry, cell count, motor type/kv/efficiency level. What would (hopefully) happen is that it would drive the industry to more efficient levels, which helps out the consumer.

In 1/10 scale the 7S works good, but if they go on to 1/8 scale, I'm not too sure if the smaller motor can handle the weight. I'm only saying to keep the RPMs to bellow 40K to let people choose the voltage and the right Kv motor and it might also show people that you can run a cheeper 2200-2500mAh 6S set up and still get over 20 mins. of run time.

The idea for now is to get something started (not trouble) for other than the people here on the forums to see what this stuff can do. Giving some rules for this race, to start with, makes it a little more ligitimate, not to cut other people out. I do like the idea that OPEN is OPEN. These things can go faster than anyone can handle. I like the 20 minute A-main too. These can make it on one pack (No Pit Guy).

At our local race two weeks ago we had 13 brushess 1/8th scale buggies and 3 Truggies.

Here is a pic of the BL vehicles on this thread:
