go with some deans off ebay (the ones that come from hong kong) they are like 15 bucks for 10 sets.

they work just as good as the deans you buy off towerhobbies

you could maybe go with 4s2p a123s. that would be a cheap battery (4s 4600 mah) for around 125.

they are extremely bash worthy

also lincpimp you are married arent you?

Quite right, add a rcm motor mount and a pinion and you are up another 80 bucks with shipping.

Not so sure about the deans knock offs. I had issues and went back to real deans and have had no problems since.

I've got a Feigao 9L motor if you're looking to buy one. I used it on my E-Maxx and it worked great. Since then, I had to sell my Maxx, so I don't have a use for the motor. You will need to get some connectors for it, or just solder directly to the ESC. The motor is in pretty good shape. It does have a little ding on the end bell from when I tried putting the motor system in my Rustler and doing a wheelie.
I'd be happy to get $35 shipped (US) for it, if you're interested. I'll get some pictures of it too if you want it.

I wouldn't advice the use of a 9L motor; they tend to run hot pretty easy; i understand you are on a budget, but the 9L is a hot running motor on 4S lipo's.

The mega motor is nice.

If you got the room for it, i would go 8/9XL and gear it up a bit more.

Don't know if you've seen the speed calculator BrianG made, it's in his signature and it works like a charm.

Good info on gearing.

Welcome!

well the budget is flexible, if i could spend a bit more money now, and avoid doing it later, then i'm all for it, i work, so there's money coming in, i just wanted to keep it at around $500, how much better would $700 buy? :P

I have to say the title is a bit misleading. You can hardly say you know nothing about rc. You seem to have done your reading. The only thing you have possibly overlooked is your budget. RC has a special way of blowing budgets to pieces. You should be able to get something up and running for very close to that budget but stopping the money flowing at that point is the hard bit.

Buy a Neu, Hacker, or one of the better motors... Batteries are perishables so you'll end up with different ones eventually. Better ESC's are an option too but I'm holding out for the Monster Mamba Max, so I wouldn't go high end there yet.

Revo's seem to always get the diffs replaced with better stuff from mike here at RCM.

If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

Well, stepping up in either ESC or motor is a considerable jump. The next step for the ESC would be about 275, the motor around the same. It would be a better, more efficient (cooler) setup, but not sure if you'd want to hit the 1,000 price point... unless you become an addict like us. Besides, you're gonna want to save a few pennies to replace the oddball thing that will break...

I think the 8XL or 9XL, 4s lipo, and MM ESC is the way to go in your case.

do you guys.. and girls... really stay within your budget...

I can never stay within my budget..... it always seems to double or triple... and quad sometimes... go with the high efficient setup... you won't regret it at all.... better to save a couple more hundred dollars and get something very nice... especially if you can afford it..

i already read both threads, good stuff. A Pink E-Revo is the best one of gift a girl could ever receive, in my opinion :P

is there any once lace that will sell everything? i ask because i will probably get slammed by customs fees left and right.

so one of the main things i want to do is get my revo ready for when monster jam comes to Toronto(where i live), they had r/c's on the track then, doing jumps and whatnot, before the show too. that's jan 19-20, gah!

so, again, i just want it to run, but i will just say the 'budget' is $800(give or take)
what would the set up be?

how hard would it be to sell the nitro guts? hmm.
