emaxx3905 gearing - 01.16.2008, 02:13 AM

I am trying to figure out the best gearing for my emaxx. I have a 10XL motor running on 5S through a MM. I'd like to reach 40mph. I did the calc and I came up with something around a 54/24. Is this pinion too tall. Should I go with a 22 or 20? I just want to be able to keep my temps in check also. 5mm pinions are a bit expensive and not easy to get so I'm trying to make a good decision.

54T spur? That seems like a weird number to me, and I'm not sure that your pinion would reach it, because of the smaller diameter of the spur. I use a 66/20, which is pretty darn fast. 22T would take me to 40 mph.

what kind of setup are you running on your emaxx, sleebus? Motor, esc, voltage, etc.

on paper you should be doing more like 30 to 35 mph with that gearing, assuming a similar setup.

I'm running a 10XL on 5S. Was running a BK 9920, but the smoke got out of it. Probably will throw the MM on it this weekend with some punch contol, etc. I'm using a RRP 66T slipper, and that's worked great for me. Honestly, I haven't even put the 22T pinion on there. The 20T is fast, and I think a wreck while running the 22T would be messy. :)

However, I'm gonna have to give it a try in a open parking lot. The temptation is just too great, haha.

The 22T is closer to 38 mph, but figuring tire balooning, it's prolly close to 40. I'm using 3.7v/cell, which when using a fully charged pack is even lower than the voltage drop I've logged. All I know is that on concrete, I've yet to wind it all the way out with the 20T, mainly because I don't want to slag my ride.

The kv on the 10xl is I believe 1502. loaded, on 5s should bring to you high 30's with a 20T on a 51 spur mod 1. not sure about 32p
