I had an HV esc burn up in the evo and replaced it with a MM and and extrenal BEC. It made a differnce in longer run time and also the LVC cutoff of Novak would start cutting out several minutes before the actual cutoff. It would also shut you down when you'd spike below the LVC. The batteries would still be above the LVC setting. I was wanting to put that BEC in my e-maxx that also has the HV 4.5 in it to see if the BEC is the reason or if it is the mm with the firmware/software upgrade that is making the differnece.
Just playing around to learn more about it. Like what makes the BEC different from a receiver pack? With a BEC you need to remove the red wire but a receiver pack you don't?

With an external BEC and Novak's ESC you probably do not have to remove the red wire as long as you keep the ESC switch off like the directions state. The BEC and rx pack basically the same as far as the rx and esc are concerned, so Novaks wiring must be different somehow with respect to turning it on and off.

I thing the issue is that the Novak HV gets the current for the BEC from ONLY one of the connectors (I think is the right one).

If you use 6 or 7 NiMH cells packs the BEC works reducing 7,2 or 8,4V to 6V for the receiver and servos.

Using a 12V lead battery or 4S lipos in this connector will overload the BEC and can burn it.
