MGM9032 PC Issue -
02.18.2008, 11:06 PM
Hi.
i've had a scoot through the search returns but seems that while there have been problems, the resolution remains elusive.
I bought the MGM9032 From RCM along with the USBCOM+ and data cable.
Now, the PC recognises the USBCOM unit but the ESC remains offline no matter what i try.
I've tried it with the ESC on/off, with the battery pack connected/disconnected and also only with radio power.
I switched across to a different PC.
I downloaded the latest Version as well as the 1.0 version just for kicks.
The controller program sees the USB device but not the ESC.
The instructions are no use really, full of double negatives and awful Chinlish grammar
It's killing me. Should I return the USBCOM device to RCM, the data cable, the ESC or all three?
Please save me from impending insanity !
Marcus

First I start the controller program, then I hook up the cable to the esc and usb com, then plug usb into computer, then hook up battery to esc (need battery unlike MM).

Nope, I tried that precedure but nothing.
i'm really not sure whether I have a fault or whether the ESC isn't compatible with the USBCOM+ and/or software.
To be honest, I'm confused about which controller it is. I bought it was the MGM9032, but that is a redesignated name which isn't in the instructions, so WTH is it?

There is a 9032 in my manual, I have 16024 (same manual). Try powering up esc without powering ubec/radio.
What does it say on the controller itself? What is the version number (small square sticker).

After some exchanges with Mike it appears that my ESC, despite being bought 2 weeks ago, is in fact quite old and not compatible with the USBCOM RC-M also sold me. Mike said that the text contained on the online store did not mention that it was compatible, but it didn't say it was an "old version which isn't compatible" either. Go to the MGM site and there it is, USB compatible.
It further appears that RC-M responsibility ends there and Mike's recommendation is that I either give up on USB compatibility or blindly send my 2-week purchased $400 piece of hardware to MGM in the Czech Republic for upgrade. Yea, that's gonna happen !
2 questions,
1)How long before this post is removed
2)Why does my Butt hurt ?

I thought the older versions were programmable thu the ESC to receiver wire.
Anyway, programming with the transmitter isn't too bad, if you want to keep it.
IMO the MGM is kind of a marginal ESC. I would cut my losses, sell it or return it if possible, and wait for the MMM.

Would it even be upgradable to the type capable of being programmed by USB? I thought that there was a hardware change when they went to the USB programable versions.
I had a MGM that was not programable by USB. It was fine IMO. I changed the programaing on my MGMs more often by transmitter programaing anyway. When making changes in the field or at the track I dont have a PC, and once you do it once or twice its rather easy to do anyway.
Not sure really who is right and wrong here. I know that RCM trys not to carry to large of an inventory of controllers or motors (or anything for that matter) just because as the next greatest thing comes allong, the last greatest thing tends to get stale on the shelves. The 9032 MGM is probably not one of the more popular ones which is why the stock was still of the non USB style. This change to USB programablilty isnt really from that long ago so I can see how there would easily still be stock of non usb type. I dont really think its feasable to always have the stock be the very latest version of something that updates as frequently as the software on the MGMs.
On the other hand... I can also see why you would want the latest and greatest. Who wouldnt?
BTW... I doubt that the post will get deleted.
I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...
Silent...But Deadly
