External BEC when not above the esc limit?

Im not running a voltage too high for the BEC in my VXL 3s, but would it help at all to run an external BEC anyways? would it be mroe efficient or put a little more power to the motor? would it help lower temps or anything like that?

I don't think it would add more power to the motor, but it will for sure help keep temps down. I did a little test of the MM internal BEC on 3s (which is within the limits according to the specs) and the bec components heated up to 180 degrees in a matter of just a couple minutes (and this is with virtually no load on them running just a 25mm 5v fan.) No matter what voltage you run the BEC will generate some kind of heat so it certainly will not hurt the esc to remove that heat source.

so would i just remove the red wire and solder the UBEC to the battery? or would that not help? do i actually need to take out the BEC?

Yep... Thats all you need to do to disable it.

and it will deffinetely lower temps? which would sortof make it more efficient and all... might should use one on all my ESCs... haha

At anything over 2s, it's always better to use an external switching BEC.

If running only 2s or 6/7 cells, it's actually about the same efficiency-wise running a linear or switching regulator.

However, as jhautz said, running an external one will keep any of the excess heat out of the ESC.
