Do the stock GST tires balloon bad at high speeds? I just bought an XTM MMT and am doing the same thing you are with it and the MMT is even bigger then the GST. I know feeling the stock tires that they are going to balloon bad. Let me know what you find out, cause other then myself and you I haven't found anyone that has these big trucks running brushless.
I'm going with a 1521 1.5D and HV110. I'm looking for 70mph on 10S.
They're pretty low profile tires, they do balloon... but I haven't noticed really bad ballooning...
think that motor is going to push the GST to 70MPH... Conversion will be about 17-18Lbs...
Mine weighs 18.5 lbs and talking to Steve at Neu he says with 37V's their should be no problems reaching 70+mph. He said aerodynamics is going to be the main problem with a truck this large. Getting it low and stable is the key. I bought the Trinity heavy springs to tighten the suspension up and it will also lower the truck about 1 inch or so.
Also I went with the Neu cause of the 4 pole motor which has more torque.
A guy from germany has done a belt driven nemesis, it was pretty cool. Cant find the pictures anymore. But heres the video http://www.myvideo.de/watch/940850
If i remember it correctly he comes from hi speed boating (Saw events) and at this time Nimhs were prefered for hi Amp draws (lipos weren't allowed i think). Wheight isn't always a bad thing especially when it comes to handling on a rough surface.
yeah, that GST build was nice.. I saved the pictures too.... I like the belt system, I thought of doing the same thing, but I'd have to use double kevlar belts..
JzeMaxx.. what's that 1521 motor capable of ?.. 2500 Watts?..
I still don't thing that will bring you to 70MPH...
JohnnyMax.. had 2700 Watts on a maxx truck and just made it over 70MPH.... now, mayb that 1527 might be able to do the job...

My 1521/1Y on 10S gave me a little taste of 4670 Watts and a blown rear diff.
Hey Aqwut, why not go with the dual 1527's and a dual-belt system? If I refer to the gear on the center differential or whatever it drives as the spur gear, and the gear on the motor shaft as the pinion gear, then why not have a very similar layout, except with places to mount two motors, instead of one, like the E-maxx motorplate, and have one "pinion" be farther out than the other by mounting the second motor farther forward by the width of one belt to avoid the belts hitting. Then have dual "spurs" (one right in front of the other,) hook up some belts, and you're ready to go. I hope this will give you an idea or two.

The 1521 will give you around 4000-4500 watts....and can run continous hovering around 3000 or so. Underrated for sure....
I have a 1527 1D, awesome motor as well, but they draw insane amount of amps....I don't like that with a light vehicle, and much less with a close to 20lbs vehicle.
