You are using a y cable to connect the brake servo and esc, correct?

Remove the brake linkage from the servo and verify that it is moving the same amount both ways without the load. If not check you radio settings, or try another servo.

Are you using connectors between the motor and esc? If so they may not be making good contact. I usually direct solder the motor and esc wires, once I have found the correct hookup for motor direction. That is sometimes the cause of stuttering during startup.

And a pic or two of your setup may help diagnosing the problems.
