my battery leads and series connector are really long. should i cut the battery leads down, this is my first brushless truck any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I would suggest that you cut the battery leads down -- very long battery leads are really hard on an ESC.

Also, how hot is the motor getting?

glad someone came on the motor is a little warm i can hold it comfortably in my hand I tried it on 62/22 gearing and got the same glitching after a couple minutes of running.
