12 cells on an LRP F1 Pro?

Hey guys,

I know this isn't a brushless question but you all have the most electronics knowledge of any RC forum. And I know this sounds like a dumb question, but do you think I could get away with running 12 cells and Titan (23T 550 Mabuchi's) on my LRP F1 Pro speedo? I know it's beyond the "official" specs.

Right now I'm running twin 14T motors on 7 cells, which is right on the unit's limit...it gets hot after a run, but never thermals. However this setup just isn't powerful enough for me, so I have been wondering if given the much lower amp draw of twin Titans (it'd be equivalent to running a single 14T motor) I could up the voltage to 14.4V? As far as I can work out, there wouldn't be any particularly voltage-sensitive components in the speedo. If it would just be a matter of keeping a close eye on temperatures then that would be fine, I just don't want to hook up the 12 cells to have the unit just fry immediately...I can't afford a new one, lol! Dude, I type far too much lol, sorry for the long post guys. But thanks for any help.:)

Um, no. 10 cells is the limit on that one, I don't think I'd want to push it any more though. I think the internal BEC is only good up to 8 cells anyway, 10 might be with it disabled and using a rx pack. I ran 8 through my LRP IPC Pro Sport and it took it just fine, but didn't feel like screwing with rx packs so I didn't go further.

I doubt it , but rc car action ran 12 cells through a lrp 7.1 (older esc) in a pan car with a custom wound 8t 550 size drag motor. but that was an ultra high end esc and i don't think the F1 is able to do it.

Ok, thanks guys...I'll give 12 cells a miss. I didn't really think about the BEC either, so I'll probably get a hold of some 8-cell packs at some point and just run 8 cells with the 14T Orbitals. Cheers :)

Well, when all else fails, read the instructions. The 8 cells w/ BEC 10 cells w/o BEC was how my IPC Pro was made, don't know if the F1 Pro was like that.

Guess what though? According to Tower, the AI Pro is only supposed to have an input of 4-7 cells.....that sucks. I did put 8 through my brother's Novak Rooster and it handled it just fine (only supposed to take 7 as well), but I don't know if you're a gambling man. :D

Lol, well the instructions say 4-7. But As far as I know, the F1s are based on the same FET technology as the IPC speedos...and I'm gonna whack a fan on top anyway. I might disable the BEC just in case, but in this case, I am a gambling man, lol! I reckon it'll take it, if it can stand up to twin 14T overgeared mod motors on 7 cells without thermalling, with any kind of luck it can take the extra cell. :D

Do drop the BEC, for the sake of the controller. The BEC chip will generate more heat as voltage is added, so don't stress the chip too much.

Yup, I'll switch off the BEC and slap on an Rx pack, don't worry. :)

There's no switch for the BEC though, just pull the red wire out of the plug and it should be okay.

On the F1, if you just switch off the power switch then it disables the BEC circuitry...

I don't know how LRP esc's work, but on my novak dually it says if you use a rx pack to leave the switch off so the bec dosen't overload.
