has anybody tried charging one of these packs @ 5 amps yet, maybe I wont risk it but I am thinking it should be ok

yes i have Flightpower & Trakpower 4900. Both charged at 5amps for over a yr now and still in top shape :)

I've email Flightpower and the guys at Flightpower tell me that we can charge their pack to 2.5C without any porblems. The only downside is that if you charge it at more than 1C each time you use it, you'll decrease the lifespan of your pack.
So your 4900mAh can be charge at 5A thrue 12A without any trouble

thanx for the feedback and FYI you dont really sppeed the charge up much by going over 1C if you put a full charge in, the first 30 mins will be at the ampaerage selected than drop down to a trickle charge

Yes, i know, it's good for race condition, when you have to recharge in a short laps of time.
