what you see is normal imo...
mega motors average efficiency at low and medium portions of the powerband is around 5% lower than the corresponding medusa v2...
peak efficiency is also about 5% lower than medusa v2...

as an example, consider that a 5% efficiency difference means 20watts more heat at 400watts input, whereas a 60mm can is supposed to run 'warm' at 50watts worth of heat dissipation... practically, 5% less efficiency at a similar powerband means 40% more heat...

however, i agree that 15degrees of timing and higher gearing will allow for a better efficiency...
