is this caused by diff pull? -
06.23.2008, 10:27 PM
my 3905 emaxx drives straight as an arrow when it moves forward and back. but, as soon as i get some power on it...20 mph+ if pulls left. the harder the acceleration, the worse it gets.
i currently have stock diffs with 30k lube in front and rear. seems to me, there is no reason for the diff to unload to one side more than the other. is there something wrong with my diffs? something else?
something else i had noticed is if i had my truck on a stand and turn all the way to the left or right it would go back to exact center, but if i was to turn left or right very minimal, it would just stay to the left or right and not even try to return back to the center. is this whats causing it? how do i fix this even if its not the problem?
is my toe in off on all the wheels or something...or is the turnbuckles different lengths, or camber off? i dont have the gauges to do these things, but from my naked eye...they look to be all the same length or look the same.

Check all of your shocks and make sure they all have the lower retainers, and that they all work without binding. That is usaully the cause for a pull, as the suspension can compress easier on one side than the other. I have had the same issue with just one of the 8 shocks on a maxx being damaged.
You may want to check all of your wheel bearings and driveshafts too. Any binding can cause erratic behavior.

how do i check if i have a bad steering servo. it still returns back to center , but only when i turn left/right very minimal then it doesnt. do i open up the servo and check for stripped tooth?
wheel bearings and driveshafts are all looking good. but to check the shocks was a good idea, never even thought bout it. but those are all good as well. im pretty sure also its not the shocks cus if it was one bad shock on one side it would always pull to that side right or no? in my case it would sometimes pull to the left or right just depending on how i just adjusted my toe in with the front and rear tires.
i kinda think its because the tires dont get back to center when i turn left/right very minimal because since the servos arent holding it in the center, as it gains more speed the tires shake a little more causing the tire/wheel to turn left/right just a bit. and when this does happen, ill turn it the opposite direction to make it go straight, but then it would just veer in that direction , instead of just pulling it to the other direction just a tad so i can be going straight. hope this all make sense to you guys.
just needa know how to fix that thing

i had the older emaxx, and had the same problem. went straight at slow speeds, forward and in reverse, but pulled strong to one side when i'd gun it. then i bought a set-up system, and the difference was huge. it seems my eyeball method wasn't very precise at all, lol. anyhow, it's worth the investment - esp. if you plan to do even moderate racing. or high speed passes, lol.

The steering sounds like a crappy stock servo saver unit.

Just throwing out ideas, regular servos don't return to center well, which is one of the things people buy digital servos to improve on that. So that's normal- but I don't think that amount of slop is anywhere near enough to cause your steering issue. If it was the diff, I would think it would do it at any speed.

My stock one doesn't return to center at all. The ride with the proline aftermarket steering kit does fine. Too much slop IMO.

There is a possibility it's a radio issue also, if you have access to another identical transmitter, you may try swapping crystals (assuming you have the stock radio) and see if the symptoms show up still. Could be a bad steering position sensor (gimbal?)
or a wiggy receiver, maybe not likely, but just thoughts.

im using a fm radio...it was working fine like last week. i just replaced my truck with new tires/rims and got into a crash so i had to adjust the toe in and camber and now this happened. how do i check if my servos are bad? just open them up or what?
