Exactly. Just make a u-turn and head out towards the water. Since you can't go straight, the road will go around the buildings that you'd run into if you went straight ahead.
I don't remember seeing any people running their RC near the freeway overpass, but now that I think of it, there is that long and narrow "lake" on the Oakland side of university and the Berkeley side of the freeway right there that has a waterski jump in it and I think guys run their RC boats there...now THAT could be the spot to go. I used to play frisbee golf in that park and seem to remember some cool spots that would be good for bashing. Lots of trees too, so you have some shade to beat the heat.
Kinda tricky finding it in a car unless you know where you're tryina go and then it's just a matter of finding the road that goes accross the tracks to get to the lot for the park there. It'd be like "get off on university heading towards berkeley, take a right on san pablo and then head down a few blocks till you can go right and get accross the train tracks".
So that's really 2 spots in berkeley. One on either side of 580 at the university exit.

See if I can get some maps goin on in a sec.

edit:

Berkeley Marina
Berkeley Aquatic Park
"Point Molate"

Hrm, had to fix the links because they seemed to be anchored in the center of berkeley(my initial map search) and kept defaulting back to the MLK memorial dealio. Fixed now.
