ive also had this issue using the JR SX3, which im pretty sure is exactly the same without the 2.4gig.
i either had no brakes or reverse or STRAIGHT to full brakes and or reverse (with lockout)... it was really weird. my controller fried before i could work it out... but, on my AM radio its great, so its something with the menus (god i HATE LCD radios... analoge trims are MUCH easier... imo.)
