Hey i know his name is taboo around here but there is a Baja 5B brushless setup for sale from finedesignrc.com I am not saying that you have to buy it but at least look at how someone else has done it and what they have used and use that to get some ideas and how to mount it.

I wouldn't say taboo as much as it is that he has done bad business with too many people in the past and charges way too much for his product. He has also not been very truthful or forthcoming in many areas.

It will be a peice of cake to mount the motor. Im ordering a 3in x 3in x 4in peice of T6-6061 high grade aluminum soon off ebay for $8. I will then make the mount out of that. I have no idea when Ill be able to order the ESC but the batts, pinions and chain should be ordered here soon aswell.

Lipo, yay! I'm assuming you're ordering 4 packs for a 10s 9800mah setup? 5s 9800mah or 10s 4900mah won't be enough in either configuration for that large/heavy of a truck...

Actually the 10s 4900mah setup will be plenty... Higher voltage ussually means less current draw so it will be fine.

Here are some pics of the motor mounted...

I will also be installing 2 more mounts of the same specs on the rear end of the can to keep it from swaying.

Im afraid of belt drive. Ive seen them snap on scooters quite often. The reason I want to use chain is because I can get the very small beads and not take up space but yet have a very strong connection between the pinion and the center diff. And their is less room for meshing error with using chain. If you mess up the meshing on a belt you could strip the belt.

1 word can describe that.

Beastly.

Looks awesome Ryan, should be one hell of a truck.

As far as belt vs. chain, I have to agree with Ryan, the chain would be better, would have a far more solid/crisp throttle feel than a belt, and would be stronger. And as the chain stretched, you could take links out as needed. Cant do that with a belt. Good luck, should turn out awesome.

Why not make a tensioner for the chain? I'm not sure if they actually exist, but I've had an idea for a while: Put a gear on a spring-loaded mount that meshes into the chain and if you use the right spring it should push the gear down into the chain as it stretches thus keeping the tension right. I'm not sure exactly how well it would work, but I'm surprised that I have never seen this actually done before.

You've got an awesome build going. I've wanted a 1/5th for a long time but never had the money to get even a gas one (not to mention go electric with it). Hopefully you can get it running soon, it's looking good so far.

All I ever wanted was an honest weeks pay for an honest days work.
