VXL Rustler Lipo - 10.02.2008, 09:46 PM

Would a TrueRC 3s 8000mah lipo be suitable for my BL Rusty? It is only rated for 15c. If it makes any difference, i plan to run a Neu 1509 in the future.

I had run a Max amps 3s 5000 and 8000 in a VXL Rustler...the 8000 will be a little more stable but the 5000 will be more responsive due to the weight difference. I eventually removed the stock ESC and ran the vxl with a MM esc, CC BEC , 4s 5000 True RC lipo and Fiegao 9L and that was my fav setup, very good performance and run time exceeding 30 mins

The fact that the pack you are looking at is only 15C doesn't mean it isn't capable. The "C" rate is only half the story - 15C at 8000mah is 120amps - which is way more than enough. 3s in a Rustler geared for under 50mph should work well with even 70amps continuous (ie 3500mah 20C). You would just get a crapload of runtime.

You will only be doing speed runs, as there is no way to control more than 50mph for bashing with only 2wd. And if you decided to bash at 70mph, your motor would heat up very fast, and your ESC would most likely thermal. The battery would take it better than both the ESC and motor.

Ok, thanks, i'm just gonna be bashing, so i'll for 50mph then. On 3s at lower speed, i should have ridicalous torque and runtime, right?

Even 50mph might be a bit much depending on the terrain .
You'll have ridiculous torque/runtime regardless of speed , as long as it's drivable.
