Lightbulb Velineon V-twin ? - 10.11.2008, 10:41 AM

How reliable is the Velineon V-Twin setup? Does it over heat or fry the ESC And how fast is it? Ijust got my E Revo and want to go BL with that setup. I want about 40MPH so is that possible with that Vtwin?

40 mph is cruising speed for v-twin......you can hit 60 mph easy just watch the temps........... go to traxxas forums and read the FAQ that neil did ........all the info you need is there

Personally I would wait for the MMM/Neu combo that should be out in a few weeks. Less complex, more power, computer programability, and a higher quality motor. Plus it should be cheaper, as it is supposed to be around $300, while the velineon systems are $175+ each...

However the v-twin does look cool, and it is all traxxas stuff. People seem to have success with them, so I guess they work...

very good info and a much better choice BUTT....if he goes with castle he could end up like the rest of us waiting months for a Monster replacement if his blows...hate so say that buts its very true

No need to even visit the idiot forum, the FAQs are in my sig (select the Erevo specific one and scroll down to the relevant sections).

Pains me to say it also, but the current VXL escs and motors do seem to be pretty solid, if a little lacking. Fingers crossed for the MMM V3...

i've got 2 twin velineon e-maxxs, and they are VERY reliable. Traxxas' turnaround time for esc or motor replacements are about 10 days door to door but i've never had one problem with the twin v setup. it's got ENORMOUS torque and it's ridicliuosly fast. I can get 60mph with it if i run 8K 3s lipos and gear 54/22. I run 2 12V fans on the motors with 2 800mah heli lipos to keep the motors from overheating. i almost never see temps over the 160 range.

here's a pic of one of mine, which is not the conventional setup:

and my other one which is my basher, setup to run 3s 5K lipos and is geared alot lower so the fans arent all that necessary:

I tried the MMM, but i needed something more reliable for the time being.

I've found a GREAT esc in the LT-10S (Lutach's esc) with my neu 1515 1Y setup on 6S. the thing is a MONSTER. It's faster than the twin V's, and it's alot of fun. i've had about a dozen runs on it, and it's been flawless. I've very happy with it.

here's that one:

hope that helps.
