Absolutely. But guys like you and Brian are also not the types to do this mod, then get on a forum and complain about crappy customer service if/when it fails.

I agree 100%. There ARE people who can and do tinker/mod/etc.. but know the possible consequences.
The issue are the people that see what you guys do.. think they should.. but don;t necessarily have the knowledge, tools, etc to do so.. and end up doing damage, then upset that they are out of luck.

I'd bet $$ you have more than one ESC as well.. and that would be to replace a failed unit.. to either repair yourself.. or have repaired. it's not about throwing ALL your expendable money at a hobby.. but enough to enjoy it and not be disappointed at a race, track, or just out Bashing.

I certainly do not place myself on the same level as the newbs at the Trx forums, but I do consider myself more of a normal/typical hobbyist. The people that tinker and mod and complain about failed results (and also about a voided warranty as a result) are children (or act like such). A mature adult would decide if a mod was justified and accept the risks.

And no, I do not have any spare ESCs, motors, etc. The only spare electronic components I have are stock radios I remove from RTRs in favor of a Spek rx. Over the last 3-4 years I've been into this hobby, I have only blown one motor, and that was due to using a too-loose CD in my Revo.

I guess I just had a problem with your apparent lack of empathy for those who do not (or can not) purchase several spares "just in case". I know where you're coming from, but that is a elitist attitude and is not conducive to encouraging new people into the hobby. But that's just my opinion.

Valid point.. Coming off as "elitist" wasn't my goal nor do I want to be considered such. The point was.. If you aren't 100% confident in tinkering/modding/etc.. to the point you CAN accept the consequences of a voided warranty.. then you SHOULD side to the conservative approach.. Have an extra so that you CAN still play while you send a failed unit in for repair, or be OK with sitting out for a time while you send your only unit on for repairs. You can't moan at the company that makes the ESC or whatever the device is for enforcing a logical approach to warranty coverage. If you open it... and they can see you damaged it from opening.. or evenif they wanted to just flat out say... You open it.. warranty voided... is entirely justified.

Not to compare something on really different scales.. But look at Stock Car racing.. There are the teams that have the cash for bring a ton of extra parts, cars, etc to the track to deal with failures, crashes, etc, and can run the bleeding line and not worry if they blow something up in practice or qualifying to gain an edge.. as they have a back up... then there are teams that don't and have to deal with the reality of protecting what they have, not abusing it, crashing it, or otherwise at the peril of making race day.

Hobby's are expensive.. and if you are running RC and BL... you are investing a fair amount of money into the hobby... and we ALL know the BL stuff tends to run on the edge and push limits. It's to your enjoyment benefit to have the ability to invest a little more and be able ot keep playing when the nearly inevitable failures happen.

I have broken my fair share of stuff in this hobby. Lipo puffing is the main thing that has plauged me, but the cure was to sell off my maxamps stuff....

Trial and error is the only way to learn for most... But I do agree that some people do go into things blind and with no apparent thought for the consequences.

I am also an elitist, so don't feel bad.

Screwing things up would be the father... We usually have a "necessity" after a bad crash or tinkering session gone wrong lol..

Not everyone into this hobby have the same financial capabilities like you do. To talk generalities and assumption to everyone is not the best thing in my opinion. Yes, failures can happen but not everyone expects the product they just purchased will only last a couple of hours or so as an example.

Just like my personal experience the ESC I bought from Luciano, I posted on this board my thoughts regarding the build. I noticed right away that the mounting of the capacitors can be improved. I informed Luciano about it and changes were made at the factory to improve the quality. Anyway, I still ran the ESC in stock form and it only lasted about 6 minutes. The smoking end was all videotaped for everyone to see.

After receiving the replacement ESC from him, the first thing I did was to install new capacitors given to me by killajb(thanks again), taped, and shrink-wrapped them along with the stockers. I also fabricated a 3mm aluminum backing plate after Linc noticed that the bottom plate needs some reinforcement. I beat the crap out of this ESC after these mods were done and it's still running fine.

And no, I don't have any replacement esc or motors. However, I do have my nitro supermaxx trucks to run with while waiting for the MMM and 70mm Medusa to arrive .


Edit - By the way, RC is not a very good investment .
