Flamethrower! (Yes I'm going there!) - 11.18.2008, 10:31 PM

Ok I figured out how to do it (kind a) but I need suggestions on the pilot light / source of initial flame..

I'm thinking at the moment of going to REI tonight to review camping stoves and other existing out of the box possibilities, but as usual you guys have great suggestions so please feel free to shoot them out so to speak.

Hopefully I’ll have a mock up ready by this weekend for testing..

Thanking you all in advance your time and great suggestions..

Nothing!.. Hahahahaaa..

Any plans to make it autonomous? It would be interesting to see a toy truck going on a destructive rampage all on it's own :D

how are you making the flame thrower?

if you're using gas or something as the fuel, then think back to your childhood days (or mine atleast) when you (or I) ran around with aerosol cans and a match.

so just stick a match infront of the outlet for the fuel.

I used a lighter rather than matches... did we all do that kinda thing when we were young?

I was thinking a more long-lasting flame was needed though, rather than a match- something like one of those long necked lighters for lighting gas stoves or ovens. Just clamp the trigger down once its lit and mount the flame end just infront the nozzle of the flame thrower...

WTF IS THIS MADNESS!!! I LEAVE AND WE BUILD WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION!!!!

Lol, that is one of THE coolest projects ever, and it's masterfully done. Good work X10.

And for a name, you have to call it Duke Nukem, and put an "I've got BALLZ of STEEL" sticker on it.

I might of missed part of this. Just scanned through trying to catch up. Are you looking for a pilot light that is already ignited or a spark. Didn't see what the flamethower is made out or what fuel your using.

A glow plug and igniter might do the job. I've never left the glow plug in the ignitor for long. But is should last a while. I suppose you don't need an ignitor is you just hook it up to some DC to start it burning. You can make switch on your RC and ingnite the glow plug when you need it then turn the juice off when you done.

Isn't California already on fire?

Igniter. - 11.19.2008, 07:28 PM

I to was thinking along the lines of using a glow plug powered by a seperate battery with some kind of switch that you could turn on and off when you need it. Your fuel source could be all kinds of things like licsol, or propane, or almost any kind of pressurized flamable gas with a servo controlled trigger system. You sure are having fun with this Shaun. War monger!!! Whater you come up with think safety. I would hate to see all of this hard work go up in flames due to over looking some small detail. Good luck with that TDC. I am still wondering what in the hell you plan to do with this truck??? Weapons of mass destruction?? that is funny stuff.

i think the vid with the tank would be easier to do, just get a big aerosol can -like the cooking oil in the vid or what ever- and stick a lighter infront of it. to trigger it, mount a servo above the can that pushes the spray thing down.

I'd go mechanical with a stripped down battery powered piezo lighter hooked up to a servo...

or a servo pushing on a grill igniter might work.

Seems like you would need a servo on each side of the switch to do that.

Haven't heard anything from Shaun in a while. He didn't get caught trying to run some new weapons across the border did he?

so thats where he's getting alll these weapons from

you got to be REALLY careful running this truck.

on a bad day you could stab yourself, destroy your shin, cover yourself in paint, get hit by rockets, get lost in smoke, get hit by a net, get attavked by a paint grenade and now burn yourself/others/property/etc.
