True. I owned a G2 e-maxx a while (a long while) back when i still ran ni-mh and i flew off of a large jump and somehow pierced the metal bottom of the battery tray enough to ruin my nimh.

I've owned both (G2R, not the G4) - FLM would get my recommendation. Its a tougher unit, no comparison. I had less trouble with it than the G2R. I don't think the 4 is that different.
