Yeah, LCDs are notoriously brighter than CRTs (tube style). You'll love the desk space it creates, less wasted heat, picture quality, and saved energy.

For optimum viewing of text and other office-type applications, set the video card resolution to whatever the LCD pixel dimensions are. So, if your new LCD is 1280X1024, set the video card resolution to that. It the text/icons look too small, you can increase their size. For gaming/TV/video it matters less since text is not as important.

Now all you need to get is a TV tuner card, hook up cable/antenna/whatever to it, and watch your favorite programs in a little window while on the forums!

Just follow these instructions:

Go to your desktop (your main background itself, not the file location)
Right Click on the desktop
Click on Properties
Click on the Setting Tab
Adjust the Screen Resolution slide bar to 1680x1050

If that resolution is not available, you probably need to install the drivers for your monitor if you haven't done so already.

Sometimes, the video card does not "see" what the monitor is specifically - it just knows to output a signal at the most common resolutions. The LCD should have come with a CD (or can go d/l from the website) that tells the computer what resolutions the monitor supports.

If that 1600x1050 res is not available in the directions skellyo posted, you'll need the drivers. If it does, you're good to go.

Be aware that unless you have one heck of a powerful video card, you are gonna definitely want to turn down the resolution if playing any of the current 3D PC games (from within the game video settings, not your desktop). The power to render high-Q video at 1600x1050 is not insubstantial and you may get very low frame rates. If you don't play games, disregard this whole paragraph.

Now you have to go set the resolution. Just follow the steps I posted earlier. You should now have the 1680x1050 resolution listed.

Assuming you are using Windows:

1: Download the zip file to your desktop
2: Assuming you have some type of archive program (WinZIP, WinRAR, etc), open the file and extract the contents to a new folder.
3: Close the archive program.
4: Go into that new folder you extracted the files to, run "setup.exe"
5: Hopefully you won't need to reboot, but check the resolution settings Skellyo posted earlier.

6: If that doesn't work, send me Paypal for $2000 (to cover airfare, accomodations, incidental expenses, and my "fee") and I will come over there and get it set up for you.
