Need Help from BrianG or a Castle Tech - 01.05.2009, 03:22 PM

Hi need your help

Yesterday my MMM Case opend itself after a bad landing and the red Wire wich goes to the Reciever came loose from the Brainboard. The copper came with it so there is no Solder Point anymore. There are three very small Points left from the conection wich i think comes from the backside of the Brainboard. But it is not enough to make a good soldering. (see attached Pic)

Is somwhere on the upper Brainboard another BEC + Point where i can Solder?
I know my Warranty will be lost and i dont care.
It is an V2 MMM

Best regards and thanks
Webwiesel

Excuse my bad english....

Need it very urgent...

To send it in from Germany and get it back will take about 4 Weeks + shipping and maybe Tax. It is an Easy fix if you know where to solder.
Never had a Problem with V2 and Firmware 1.20

Check the voltage on the fan lead but I'd bet 6v the same as the Rx connector...

OR

Just insulate the end and install an ubec for the rx...

OR

Wait for brianG ;)

lol, I'm hardly an expert, but what Arct1k said is what I'd do, in the following order:

1: Send it in. I know that's not an option in your case, but I gotta say it 'ya know?

2: Try to find another spot to solder. You have to be careful if you plan to use the fan lead because that power is turned off and on based on temperature. However, Castle may be switching the ground lead (meaning the power line is always "hot") so you might be ok. The only way to test would be to power up the ESC and carefully use a multimeter and measure. Careful not to accidentally short stuff out with the probe tip though. Also, be aware that when poking around, you might find a spot where you see 6v, but also measure AC (with a true RMS meter) to make sure you aren't measuring a sqaure wave that happens to average out to ~6v DC.

3: Keep the red wire out and use an external BEC. Be aware that programming will be a PITA though. You'll have to hook your main battery pack while the castle link is used so that the brain board gets power (normally gets it via the link but since the red wire is gone...). I know this works because I'm using an external BEC and that's what I have to do to program my MMM.

hate to hijack but my fan stopped working can i get a new one for free from castle? and anyone have problems with stuff getting inside of the esc? has any one found a fix for that keeps stuff out but still allows enough airflow? and again sorry for the hijack but i didnt think it was worth creating another thread to clutter up the forum.
thanks

Hmm. I sense a scam coming on! They sell you a case/fan and then ding your warranty for opening the case!

They actually say that you might have broken the case in a bad jump so sell you a new one...

I'm not sure how they are managing the mixed messages... :)

The left solder point of the coil is the BEC output, as shown by the red frame in this picture. You can solder the read wire here. But due to the large copper area under the coil, you need to set a higher temp on your soldering iron.
