Yet another battery question! - 02.19.2009, 08:14 PM

So I am wondering how the hyperion Swift 4000mah lipo is? at only $60 thats a great price and with it being in stick pack form I could use it in my TL-01, which I really want to put a lipo into and get rid of Nimh for good. I was thinking of buying a few of them. Atleast two or three. Using them in the TL01, VXL stampede, MM dark impact, Reedy4.0 in a yokomo and probably running them as 4s in my Revo as well. ESC in it for now is a MM and its using a Mega ACn 22/30/1 geared for only about 37mph on 4s lipo. Can these batts hold up? Rated for only 80A, but its only a 80A max motor so I feel like I wont be pulling that high amps but I could be very wrong... Any help would be much appreciated. What are some other batteries that could be used in both a revo and a tl01 if any? Thanks

I'm using 2 of the Swift packs in my maxx. They are as punchy as my FP Evo25 4900's, or even punchier- is that a word... They are not true hardcase- but they are very well protected and I will be getting more of them.

Wow they are as punchy as your FP Evo25s? That says something... How long have you been running them and what is your motor/esc setup that you use them with? So they should be plenty of power for my revo? Its a little heavy since I have a lot of aluminum right now but most of it will be gone soon so it should lighten it up a good amount. I am using a clutch and two speed tranny so I feel like that will help drop Amp draw

Yeah they should do fine- my Maxx is 14.5 pounds...

I don't have enough runs on them to give you a runtime, but I am estimating 20-25 min with my MM/9XL setup.

They charge very fast at 6 amps on my Duo, so 2-3 sets will keep me going all day nonstop.

Im not too worried about runtimes... 4000mAh should be good for rouchly 15-20 minutes bashing and thats plenty enough. When I ran a MA5000 3s pack I could get that long if not a little longer and I was sucking it hard from that pack so im sure taking some stress off the packs will help a lot. Plus at only $60 a piece I can get 4 for the same price as 2 "high end" packs. But if these perform as well then I am basically sold on them

I also just found a place that has SMC 4100 24c packs for $55 and the SMC 5200 24c packs for $70... Should I spend the extra $20 to get the SMC packs? Plus a few $ to get a balancer plug? I have a hyperion EOS charger and LBA10 balancer so I know the hyperion packs will work with it. I will need an adapter for the SMCs I think...

Hyperion make great lipos, most if not all are enerland cells in the packs.

I like this pack cause I was running orion hardcase 3200 lipos in my m03 and the 3.5 novak was pulling that pack hard. I will have to try it with this hyperion pack and see if I can get a few more mph out of it!

So the only adapter I found that would let me use my blancer with the SMC packs was $7... I would end up spending more on the SMC packs and the balance adapter than I would on these packs. I think I will be getting some of these. Hopefully they will stand up to the demands I'll be throwing at them.

What size wires do they have? 12awg? 14awg?

Wires are 12 gauge, nice flexible high strand count- and they seem to need it. I had a chance to run them again today and they are absolutely stronger than my Evos, those have maybe 30 cycles, so maybe they're just getting weaker but I don't think so. Very impressed with the Swifts, they seem to be significantly underrated next to even my Evo 25s- they get my full endorsement.

To say that this battery is as powerful as a ~$130 battery is saying a lot! Especially considering that the EVO25 is rated for close to 125A.

Looking on RCM... The Hyperion Swift RC Car Series hardcase version is rated for 27c... You think that maybe these are the same cells? Has the same name only one is true hardcase and the one I listed earlier isnt?

I thought the same thing myself, the weight difference between the black pack and the blue pack is 15 grams- it does seem possible they are indeed the same cells. I noticed not only more punch- but more speed as well- the Swifts hold voltage better than my Evos without a doubt. They may have a shorter fuse but it doesn't matter to me.....

15 grams could easily be made up of the true hard case. So I think I am sold on these packs

I ordered the batteries yesterday. Hopefully will have them by next weekend and will try to write a short review on them. Will be using them in a converted Revo running MM with Mega ACn22/30/1. 14/40 gearing and close ratio with two speed still active. Should be good for about 40mph. Will let y'all know how they do!

Any opinion yet?

I have about 12 runs with the Swifts and they are PHENOMENAL. I wish they had these last spring when my noob @ss bought MaxTrash packs- and the $ I spent on my FPs would have bought 4 of these and combined, saved me around $300...... ahh that's rc tho!

The Hyperions are worth twice the money IMO- they will stand my 14 pound Maxx up right until cutoff- there is almost NO drop it seems.

I'm looking to sell my Evo25 packs to get more of the Swift packs- they are that good!

No report yet... I ordered them through my LHS (Sorry Mike but I try to support them whenever I can). It has been over two weeks and still no reply. I called them the middle of last week and they said it was still on order so I dont think they had even ordered them yet which is very strange for them... I am calling tomorrow and if they havent ordered them yet I am canceling it and ordering through RCM. I want them so bad! My Revo is yelling at me right now! It hasnt been run in forever it seems like.
