2 3s packs in parallel have the same amount of energy as 2 3s packs in series or one 6s pack of double the capacity. Its all going to weigh the same. so what are you gaining by running the lower voltage. You will get better runtimes and lower temps by going with double the voltage and half the capacity as long as you choose an appropriate motor to go with the higher voltage.

Ive been racing my 1/8 buggy and have tried alto of different motors and voltages. 3s,4s 5s 6s etc... and easily a couple dozen different motors. So far the best combo for staying cool and giving long run times on the track without being totally overkill and undrivably powerful has been a 5s setup on either a 1512/3d or 1512/1.5y. Both have been great motors for 5s racing.

I thought you said you were looking to save weight??? Saving weight and trying to run for 30 minutes without a pack swap are totally contradictory to each other. to make 30 minutes you would probably need 6s and 6000mah minimum 5s 8000 or 4s 10,000mah. Thats a heavy pack. you will be better off going with a smaller pack and doing a swap if you want the buggy to handle properly.

Just remember, the lower the voltage you choose the higher capacity pack you will need to carry the same amount of energy.

If 30 minute mains are your goal I'd recommend the 1512/3d and a pair of 5s 4000mah packs and swap them at the 15 minute mark. If you want to be safe on making the runtime go with a pair of 5s 4300mah packs. Neuenergy has a deal going on some nice 5s 4300mah packs right now.

I can't decide if its more fun
to make it...
or break it...

I have seen some setups that have dual trays now in the 1/8th buggy's. A pair of small 4S's in parallel may work...don't know.

Ok, guys my buggy arrives this week. I am thinking maybe just going with a single 5S 5000mah battery and 1512 1.5Y motor

youll beable to easliy make a 20 min RACE at race pace with a 5s 5000 pack in a buggy, i have made a 20 minute race on my 5s 4000, but i hit the cutoff not 15 second after i crossed the line. i would recomend a 1512 3d for the motor its PERFECT on 5s,

or you could go with dual tray setup in the rear with your motor in the front and run twin 3s 5000 packs in series for 6s 5000 on a 1512 3.5d and you might beable to squeak 30 mins out on the track...... Josh will be running a 1512 3.5d on 6s 2500 packs in his mp9 my getting together for him (along with the Monster's help) and we are expecting close 13-15 minutes of runtime out of it..... we will see.

Yeah, this is strictly for racing. I have both the twin 3S's 5000 and 5S 5000mah batts. Guess I need to get the buggy here and see what can be fit into the chassis. I don't think twins battery trays can be done after looking at some pics. I am going to order Mike motor mount and try to flip the motor frontwards and leave empty sides on the back for 2 batts. We;ll see.
