I think it was just that one medusa motor that was crap. So has anyone actually gotton an ESC from Hobbywing back from service? You guys could be sending them to nowhere and we prob wont find out for another couple months. Good luck though. I just learned a long time ago that when I try to save a buck I usually spend 2.

FWIW, I have had zero problems with any of my three Medusas (36-50 in Slash and CRT.5, 36-80 in XT8), and ordered a 4th for my 4tec. Like anything manufactured, there is bound to be a small percentage of failures - can't have 0% failure rate after all. It does suck when one of those failures takes out other components it is hooked to though...but that's par for the course I'm afraid...

I never had an MMM, but had an MM in my truggy. Since using it in anything larger than a 1/10 stadium truck would make it out of warranty, going with a HW made no difference to me in terms of warranty as I wouldn't be covered. The 80A HW EZRun costs me 1/2 of what the MM cost, so even if it blew up, I could pick up a second for the same price. I picked up a 150A to try out and that still cost me less than what I got my MM for. Yeah, it sucks if there's no customer service backing the product, but for the price, something had to be compromised. Plus, in this hobby, since most things aren't warrantied past 30 days or some other ridiculously short period, I'm of the mentality that if it breaks, it's on me to replace it. The longest warranty (non-CC) I've been exposed to is Duratrax's plastic part replacement for a year. Then you have other companies that even though there might be a warranty, they just deny it and say it's your fault (Losi). Other than that, I'm out of warranty for most of my RC products in a few months or less.

Hey guys, I'm not saying I wouldnt buy one or that I have had one either. I'm just asking if anyone has actually sent one over, gotton it fixed and had it returned. I dont think anyone will answer that they have. The savings over the MM and MMM is there, but if it smokes in the first week or two, you are out an ESC for a long time, but thats only if you get it back. I know a lot of people run these things and they work well, but as Brian said there is a lot of current running through these things and they are more prone to failure then lets say the speed control powering your radio shack truck that does 3 mph and lasts forever.
If an MM is used within spec Castle will warranty it. The MM 7XL combo in my emaxx pulls the same amps as my MM 7700 combo in my rustler. Geared for about 35mph its a safe setup and Castle will warranty it. They dont have a magic crystal ball that tells them what you run these things in, but they do have ways of knowing if you tried to overamp your esc.
Castle has always had good support and they have probably fixed and/or replaced more than their fair share of faulty esc's due to user error and not product defects. Their one year warranty is unheard of for this type of stuff where a lot of other companies only offer 3 months.

I like castle's after sales service. They even provide non-warrenty repairs at a low price. I am intending to get a MMM + castle neu motor combo.
That aside, being a brushless esc user, I wan to try all those affordable brushless escs out there before even bashing the products. What struck me about the HW escs are that they are really cheap and they are sensored. And if they work flawlessly, then they are a real steal. The issue here right now is if Hobbywing will replace damaged escs due their intrinsic defects. Time will tell.
And alot of MMM went poof even they were ran within specs. Most just burnt up when batteries were connected to them. Not that much of user error I suppose.

If HW wants to be a viable competitor to CC, who has the largest market share, they will need to provide adequate customer service and support. They don't necessarily need to be on par with CC, but at least respond and provide support (replacements, repairs, etc.) within a decent time frame (which for overseas products tends to be 1-2 months).
