Actually the bigger can simply means tat it has a higher heat capacity for the same load. It doesn't necessary mean that the larger can has lower intrinsic efficiency.
Then again with a higher heat capacity, the motor runs cooler on the same load. And since the motor runs cooler, the effective efficiency is increased as compared to the smaller motor.
The larger can motor should be running at almost the same current than the smaller motor if both have the same kv and the vehicle they are run in is geared for the same speed.
