Titanium gear or derlin for flux tranny ?

I have replace a couple of time the upper aluminium gear in the tranny of my savage flux and i want a more durable gear i have two choice titanium upper gear but i do but the kit for 123$ http://www.gpmparts.com/shop/hpi-sav...-90008067.html

go for the delrin gear. the gear mesh is always good in the tranny and that gear won't wear as fast as the aluminum. but, you could break teeth off of it during standing backflips. you would just have to try it to find out. for under $10, you should try the delrin first.

Finally, i have order Hot Racing titanium gear TSAV1000t 98$ for my flux and next week when a receive i install 3 gear for testing and check if upper gear have some wear. I post picture later !
Did we think titanium need grease lub or just nothing just like factory ?

I did bought them too for my savvy, and after a week all tooth from the titanium gears were almost gone

The delrin gears are useless. I have an complete delrin gearset laying around, but haven't used cause even nitro breaks it...

Also an stupid thing, it is based on the OLD savage x 2-speed(delrin gears). So the clutch system doesn't works very properly...

I did run the titanium set with the flux idler gear. the idler gear is brand new, the rest is almost broken... Lots of metall in the gearbox from the tooth

So don't buy them damn things...

Delrin is soft. I don't know why people would make gears out of it.

It has a natural lubricity, so it makes a good material to make a low load gear out of if you need it to run dry. I see no reason to use it in a sealed gearbox, and it will definitely not last under high power.

I plan to run my savvy tranny in an oil bath, seems like the all metal tranny could use some help in that department. Does not take a rocket scientist to see that a metal on metal contact could do with some lubrication, especially with straight cut gears.

Notice that with an oil bath, there is a lot of resistance....

Your motor won't like that very much...

I just gave it a light spray of WD40, seems to help a lil

For low loads, delrin is indeed a good material. I should have been more specific. It is not the right material for a savage.

I have just receive today my titanium gear but i don't open because Joram said that is not good for flux and now i have send a message to Hobby etc for refund !

Hobby etc have never respond to me and i have install for try for check for some wear and after 3 run the upper titanium gear are almost scrap not better than aluminium finally !

With a small amount in the bottom of the tranny, just enough for the teeth of the lower gear to catch it should not add much drag, and will extend the life of the gears by 10-100s of times. If you filled it full it would add considerable drag.

Definitely not the right material for any sort of high load or transient load situation that is for sure! Makes good skids on crawlers!

I had a traxxas SRT with a delrin top gear and alumnium idler, it was good enough to handle 1200watts from a VXL 3s setup. not saying the delrin is good for everything, but worked in a racing truck
