rusty batts? - 12.31.2005, 11:43 AM

I have just purchased an assortment of batteries to disscover RUST on the postive and negative ends. I know this is not a good sign, but is it safe to use? The seller said only 15-20 runs max on the packs. Should i use them or chuck them in the trash? It was twelve 4-cell packs for 30 bux. Could i clean them up and use them?

I've got rust on my batt's as well. It's from s-39, a liquid that help's with soldering which rust's after time. Don't worry about it to much, you can take a dremel and take it off(with that black soft hairy rotating wheel, no grinding wheel needed)

Not that i'm aware of. The batt's i'm using had rust on them for almost 9 month's and it was very thin. Brushed away with no problem, no hard grinding or anything.

Ofcourse I may be wrong. But it did no damage or what so ever to my pack's.

Hmm with my batt's it was the s-39 liquid that was rusting. When you put solder on it it will make it flow easier, all the excess stuff will go around the actual solder joint itself. That will rust, atleast on my batt's.

If it can't be brushed off easely, I would be worried. Look for sign's that the metal is very thin at some places. If it is i'd dump the pack cause like you said it isn't safe.
