The motor I'm using is rated for 12v, plus the gear ratio I'd need for higher voltage is just not available.

What is this monster motor you plan to use? A 12v system is likely to fry at low rpm if you are wanting any decent power.
Gear ratio is always the problem, which is why I use hub motors. But, I have one of these coming that will make a Nue 1915 1y hit the perfect speed on a 26" bike. |

It's a CIM FIRST robotics motor. I'd like to use 24v 10Ah but don't really want another reduction...
PS that gearbox is very cool |

I added some info to my last post.
Give it a shot, but it probably won't do too well on acceleration. Maybe lace your rear into a 20" rim to get more reduction? The delrin gear will probably wear fast too. |

the acetyl gears will hold up fine- we use them on our robot and they work fine without wear.

I'm worried about the Mod1 reduction gearing--I can't see it holding up to 200lbs of rider and bike--even though the reduction will lessen the direct torque applied to it. Can you find a mod2 combo that will work?

I will be riding some mod1 gears here soon. We will see how they hold. The problem was finding mod1.5 or 2 gears for a 5mm shaft.
it will be interested to see how the ebike world changes in the next few years. |
