brushless 1/5 4wd conversion about to begin! couple questions.

Looking really close at that center diff/reduction unit- would it not be possible to just replace the whole thing with a unit from a 1:8 truggy/buggy? Would still need a custom mount for the motor probably, but I imagine it would be cheaper and easier than a custom spur, especially if you need several different sizes made to adjust gearing and such..
