I ran my rustler long and hard for about 2 years and the pads finally gave out with a vxl on 3s(a month of using this and the rest is racing 13.5). You should be ok with little chunks comming out but the real test is if it slips too much when you gas it hard you need new pads(unless your slipper is loose). Take a tiny bit of tooth paste and put it on the pads(on the side where it comes in contact with the plate) and rub a bit on the plate even too(not a lot at all). This will help with the life of the pads and prevent any unwanted slipping.

Hope this helps. I know rustlers inside and out so if you have questions at all i'm sure I could help you out(I screwed up and sold mine a year ago).
