short term review: mini e-revo? results? -
07.20.2009, 08:25 PM
i'm on the fence about buying one of these....my LHS has them in stock but i'm curious to hear from people who have had them for a while now. how solid are they? are there weak areas (of course, this is probably different for everyone based on terrain/bashing style/etc).
please, chime in with some specifics...

Weak areas is the axles. However, to be honest, the only reason I popped these out was attempting standing backflips... And it is different because I'm running a Neu 1112/2D on 4S...lots more power than stock.
Other than that, you'll also have to invest some money to get some stiffer springs (stock ones are so soft it's a joke), new shock oil (stock ones all leak out and are too thin anyway), and the anodized bodies (and while you are at it might as well put in the TiNi shafts) because the stock plastic bodies leak.
Eventually you'd probably also likely upgrade the pushrods and toe links to the aluminum ones cause they will eventually stretch and break.
But right now I still don't have the aluminum rods and I'm doing fine. Just popped the stock axles back in and keep running it. I'm having a problem keeping my tires glued since 1/10 buggy tires don't like seeing 60mph apparently...

I'd still say you'll want to do the shocks...they really do suck stock...it's basically springs.

Yep, I do.
I haven't driven mine with anything other than the stock setup on 2S (except for swapping the crappy TRX radio system for Spektrum). To begin with, it's a fast little booger on 2S. 30mph is moving pretty quick for a mini. I have yet to take it over much of a jump other than small hills and curbs. From what I have seen so far though, it jumps pretty well and is easy to control in the air. I have yet to damage anything at all on the truck and it's had quite a few cartwheels on sand and asphalt.
If upside down, the servo does twitch at times as it's trying to find center, but a quick tap of the steering wheel fixes that. The ESC is easy to set up and put into LVC mode. However, the ESC has pretty crappy low speed control and cogs a bit when trying to run the truck at a couple MPH. I noticed this when I was doing slow circles around my daughter in the driveway. Also, the throttle response seems a little laggy...almost like it has a lot of punch control dialed in even though the ESC doesn't have that feature.
I've had mine on the beach already and to clean it, I pulled the batt and it took a shower, literally. A hosing off and some WD40 all over it and it's ready to rock again.
Overall, it absolutely blows away any other minis I've owned/driven. That being said, I would NOT try and compare this to a Hyper Mini ST/CRT .5. It's just not the same size, nor is it built as a race-bred vehicle.
If you have any specific questions, just PM me. I'll be glad to try and help out.

I'm having a blast with mine and haven't broken anything yet running 2s and 3s a couple times for showing off speed capabilites to friends. The plastic shock bodies do suck if you intend to do any kind of jumping stiffer springs are a MUST. I ran mine a lot in stock form but eventually couldn't stand it any longer and I heavily modified it and I'm much much happier now. It handles better, drives smoother and is a terror at my LHS track. I honestly can't break it under normal conditions on the track or bashing. Definitly the best mini I've owned yet.
I'm looking forward to getting the tubes and aluminum shock bodies, waiting for Horizon Hobby to get up to speed with Hop Ups

He's not in the US. Most international customers routinely get larger discount codes than us here in the US.
