9918 just brakes when it wants - 03.11.2005, 01:29 PM

Well, basically I am very content with the Warriors. But the one on my Twinforce shows something strange. Sometimes it has no brakes at all. It runs okay for a moment, then suddenly the brake is gone. Few minutes later the brakes are there again, and work fine too.
Anybody had the same thing?

Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Possibly a radio problem? I would think the controller would either work or not work. If it works sometimes, I would tend to lean towards another problem (glitch or other radio issue perhaps).

Hmm, I think I can rule out a radio problem. It works just fine. No glitching whatsoever. Itīs just the brakes that play up. (itīs worse when the controller is warm, like 65-70°C)

I thought the same, either it should work or not. Itīs strange indeed, never had something like this before.

When the brakes are gone, if I run fast and try to brake, the truck just rolls a long way to a stop, sits there for 2 seconds and then hits reverse. 2 minutes later the brakes are back again and better than ever. No problem to flip it on its lid. Next thing you know, brakes are gone again. And so on .... really annoying

Thanks for helping, Mike

I will call the gurus at BK and see if they have any suggestions. It almost sounds like it is in boat mode when the brakes aren't working (except the warriors don't have multiple modes!). Very strange indeed.

Ja, indeed. Itīs only one of mine, the other one works fine.
Could it be a heat issue? (write me in for a 14t !)

It shouldn't be a heat issue. If anything, it would thermal, but the operations shouldn't be affected. It also takes quite a bit to thermal the 9918.

Ja, I know. Never managed to thermal a warrior yet.

Just tested this strange behaviour again. With accelerating and braking on a straight. Result: Every 10 or so brakings the brake says bye-bye and stays away for a few minutes. Then suddenly it comes back and is really strong. 10 passes later itīs gone again.

I re-programmed it, played around with the radio, checked temps, changed rx-pack, did everything I can think of. Still the same.

When the brakes go away, does everything else work fine? For HaHas, try to turn down your brakes (make not as strong) and see if they work better or for more passes without taking a coffee break.

I've had this prob on my 9918 also but just when I was doing speed runs with it. jamie at starluck said it sounded like brake fade. I never really had the problem except when doing high speed runs with high gearing. (this was in a rusty)

RCMM, when the brakes are gone, everything else works fine. I wouldn't even notice a difference if I hadn't to brake. (but you know, you only need them when you need them, but right then you really need them:rolleyes: )

HaHas?? What's that? Never heard that term.
I'm sure you already realized that I'm an english-n00b:o

Brake Fade ??? Sounds horrible to me.

It really feels as if only the braking-Mosfet thermals, or something like that.
I know I should try lower gearing, but up until now I had no chance to get a smaller pinion. And bigger spurs for the TwinForce are just non-existent :W:
I guess I won't drive it much until I get my next package from the states, and see if a 14t solves my problem.

HaHas means just for the sake of trying it or just for kicks (something like that). I am curious if lower gearing solves the problem.

Hey, would I get lower temps on the motor if I would decrease the motor-timing??
