I do reject the premise that the planet is in trouble, best example to me is look are Chernobyl. When that sucker melted down they said it would be a llllloooooonnnnnggggg time before it would return to normal....but in just what 25 years nature has reclaimed it.

Where did you hear this from? They have sealed the reactor in concrete and it will remain that way for a very long time, because the radio activity is still high enough to kill humans. The area around the reactor has been cleared for something like 20 miles, and no one goes near it.

Seriously, what is your malfunction. I never said that there were no effects on humans. I personally knew 2 of the scientists that worked on the development the bomb. It was a husband and wife, he was a meteorologist and she was a mathematician. The stuff is so toxic to humans, that when she found out she was pregnant they released her from the program. I was specifically talking about the Earth's ability to rebound from human activity. That was it.

PBO lets start over. I see you location is Sydney, safe to assume that is Australia?

My point to Herold was, it was the norm in the late 1800s and early 1900s for people to come from a big family, they worked the land so they had too. My grand mother did and she was a perfectly normal, well adjusted person. Yes today it is very unusual. And if you are against it, that is fine with me. I believe in live and let live. I think people should have as many kids as they want and CAN AFFORD. It isn't fair to bring a kid into the world and have no way or desire to care for it.

As for your statement about me stating my opinion as fact. I have tried very hard to post link after link from a quality source backing up what I am talking about. The only thing I haven't been able to is about the way my grandmother's generation handled money. Your right that is opinion based on the people I have known personally from that generation that went through the Great Depression in the U.S. and they were far better with money than I am. And it is my opinion that people should try and get back to that. Save more and consume less. I actually agree with you and Harold, but for different reasons.

Hope there are no hard feelings and that the excellent discussion can continue. If one person comes to RC-Monster for fun and can walk away critically thinking about things in the World I think it is a worth while exercise.

There is a whole series of shows called "Life after humans" that are based on the findings of Chernobyl and how fast the earth, nature, what have you will reclaim the territory. And yes you are right humans living there is out for sure, but I was using this to illustrate the resilience of both nature and our planet. I think most anything we do is temporary.

Here is an article from 2006 from New Zealand
