Lightning 2 Pro carbon rallygame conversion

I then decided the chassis wasn't light enough, took everything off the chassis and cut out areas under the motor, servo, ESC and battery leaving just a solid strip down the middle between the 3 diffs and I made a rear shock tower while I was at it.

Almost ready to run now, just a bit of soldering and a new hinge pin needed, I did forget the body mounts though so I may have to make new front and rear shock towers but I may have room on the rears as I left a fair few unused holes for ride hight adjustment, and just make a bumper with front body mounts attached like proper rallygame cars do.

D8, I've been running it with a ford focus WRC rally car body on for some time now looking like this


but now for pure on-road with the lower shock towers I'm after something lower and with more down-force like a Maclaren F1 or maybe a Lola.

p.s. Paul i have a brand new Lightning Pro body i painted in Monster Energy Style for my Lightning Pro i ain't going to use it because i'm working on a Traxxas Slash body for this buggy. So if you want a new painted body let me know. The only thing the body needs is to cut it out and make the body post holes.

I have no picture now but i have a picture of my new Hyper 7 body that looks a little like the Ligtning Pro body only the windshields aren't green and the sides are green carbon look with black.

I like the slash look for a scale off road buggy, I would keep hold of your buggy body though, when I was running off road with my Focus rally body the chassis, motor, ESC, servo etc got covered in crap so for off road i used to run with the buggy body on and the scale body over the top of it, it saved a lot of cleaning and by the end of the run it was probably lighter too. Seeing that you have a hyper with out any of the stickers on the body I will ask you if you still have the decals, I'm after the ones that look like vents.

No problem, well the body is a Proline Hyper 7. Proline don't sell them anymore but a shop also in The Netherlands still have them for sale http://www.the-border.com/product.ph...7&cat=0&page=1

The stickers i have with some vents on it are these, i have also the original lightning stickers and some hyper 7 stickers only 1 big vent and 1 small vent.

I got some more done over the weekend, I was having some trouble with the shocks, with the angle I am laying them down at the lower spring seats were hitting the bottom wishbones and limiting suspension droop, so I bought a new set of wishbones and carved away the areas that they were hitting, I also took the opportunity to stiffen up the suspensionlaying the shocks down had softened up the initial movement and put more progression in it, so I rebuilt the shocks wit 70weight in the front, 80 weigh in the rear and stiff springs all round.

However now the spring seats aren't limiting droop, the springs hit the front diff housing and that limits droop although to a lesser extent, so I will have to take it apart again and modify the front diff housing.

I made up some body mounts, the front ones aren't perfect though i should have made them taller, so I may well remake them.

I also replaced most of the M3 screws under 20mm long with some alloy ones I had laying around from another project, here's how it is looking now.

I finally got round to modifiying the front diff housing, the screw faces for the top clamping screws needed moving back 3.5mm, and there was just enough meat in the plastic to get that far back, another .2mm and I would have perforated the housing. I also had to shave off a strengthening rib, but with its placement in an allready high strength area I am not worried about having weakened it too much.


Now the springs just have a microscopic amount of clearance at full droop increasing as the wheels rise.

Could you please explain to me a little bit about what rallygame is? Is it a type of racing event, or car type, or what? I know what rally racing is, but never heard the term rallygame.

Also, awesome car, I love carbon fiber!

In essence it is on-road for buggies with road car bodies, road racing for those that don't want to have to vacuum the track before running to avoid crashing, that could take place in bumpy car parks as well as specially prepared tracks. It started with people converting buggies with road tires and stiffer suspension but has progressed to specially designed cars, there are quite a few available ranging from the most popular and probably the worst the Kyosho Inferno GT which is still basically a stiffened buggy but done by the factory, to more specialised race bred ultralight machines with belt drive and ball diffs the pinnacle of which is probably the Cronos SP9 which I'm loath to post a picture of because it makes my buggy look like a shed in comparison, but is too awesome not to so heres the pic.

I just have to ask for no posts saying how awesome the SP9 is without mentioning my car too please, I wish I could afford an SP9 but even with all the carbon and if I added a set of titanium turnbuckles it would still be twice the cost of mine at £600.

With the full Asphalt conversion the Ford Focus WRC body was a little out of place, I wanted something lower, racier and with more downforce, so I asked around before Xmas, and come Xmas day there was a ghostly transparent Mclaren under the tree, I had to wait for decent weather to paint it so that was only about a month ago, then it took me a couple of weeks of making and remaking templates but the week before last I finished my light buckets, installed them and fitted a lighting unit to the body.

Last week my Vinyl decals arrived and I installed them all (except the BMW roundels which got the sizes mixed up, but replacements are being made this week)





ps: if anyone wants the Focus WRC body, off-road wheels/tyres, you can have them for the price of the postage. (note, I live in England.)

This is a huge delay in your answer, but the thread was updated back in april so I'll answer it i guess.

Rally Game is the process of converting/designing 1/8th and 1/7th scale on-road cars using standard 1/8th scale drivetrain. Essentially most of the Rally Game cars are simply 1/8th scale buggies that use 1/8th truggy chassis and center drives for a longer wheel base, and the buggy A-arms. They often are low slung and just as indestructable as their 1/8th scale counterparts.

Recently the "Rally Game" moniker has been modified to "GT8" to indicate that these are 1/8th scale GT cars essentially.

Examples of factory GT8 cars would be the following:
Kyosho Inferno GT1 and GT2
Hobao Hyper One Seven Evolution (1/7th scale very modified Hyper 7 chassis.)
Hot Bodies Lightning Street
OFNA Ultra GTP
OFNA DM-1 Pro and Spec
